dc.description.abstract Rapid advances in wireless communicati on, micro-electronics, and embedded systems (MEMS) during the past several decades have enabled the new generation of massive-scale distributed sensor networks. The technology is much appropriate to a wide range of applications thus had been r ecognized as one of the domi nant technology trends in the coming decades. Among the others, environment monitoring and protection is perhaps the most popular application up to now. Meanwhil e, data mining which had been developed for extracting or mining knowledge from larg e amount of data could be exploited for decision making purpose in envi ronment protection applicati ons. Therefore, an open framework for seamlessly integrating sensor network and data mining technology so that both the huge amount of data gene rated and collected in sensor networks and the powerful knowledge discovery capability of data mi ning technology could be effectively and efficiently utilized for decisi on making purpose is proposed in th is paper. With the aid and support of such a framework it's much easier for application developers to implement various specific data mining application sy stems based on data collected in sensor networks.
